Depression and Pattern Glass

Depression Glass as defined by Gene Florence, author of several books on the subject, as " the inexpensive glassware made primarily during the Depression era in the colors of amber, green, pink, blue, red, yellow, white, and crystal". The glass was mass produced and sold through five and dime stores, mail order catalogs, and given away as premiums with gas and food products. This section will also include pattern and pressed glass.

Round Glass Refrigerator Dish This ribbed glass dish is 5 1/2 in. in diameter and 3 in. in height including the lid. Around the body of the bowl there are ribbed layers of the glass. There is a mark line on the inside which looks like a manufacturing flaw as it has a slight elevation on the inside and not the outside, so I ruled out it being a crack. There are no chips, just normal wear on the bottom rim from use.

1777
Pattern Glass Fruit Design Plate Such a wonderful design in this pattern glass plate from the 1930-40s. There is a fruit grouping in the center surrounded by starbursts on the rim. There are a couple of fleabites on the rim and a small chip as well. They are not easily apparent, but should be smoothed down to remedy any sharpness if the plate is to be used. If only for display, I would leave as is as the damages are difficult to see. The chip is noted in one of the photos. The plate is 8 in. in diameter.
