Josiah Wedgwood established his pottery in Burslem, England in 1759. In 1770 new facilities were opened for the production of ornamental wares when his famous Basalt and Jasperware were introduced. Jasperware has been in production to the present day and is the most easily recognized of all the Wedgwood lines. Nearly all of Wedgwood's wares are clearly marked. WEDGWOOD was used before 1891, after which time England was added. Most examples marked MADE IN ENGLAND were made after 1905. A detailed study is recommended for accurate dating.
