The earliest documented evidence of commercial glass cutting in the United States was in 1810. The first efforts resulted in simple patterns with a moderate amount of cutting. Bt the middle of the century, glass cutters began experimenting with thicker glass, enabling the use of deeper cuttings. This period us usually referred to as Rich Cut. The Brilliant Period of cut glass covered a span from about 1880 to 1915.
