Steuben Glass was founded in 1903 by Thomas G. Hawkes and Frederick Carder in Steuben County, New York. The Steuben Glassworks initially supplied blanks to Hawkes' factory. Later, Carder began experimenting with art glass after his experience with John Northwood at the English company Stephens and Williams. After several changes, the company was renamed Steuben Glass Incorporated in 1933. The company is still in production today. The simplicity and strength of design has ensured that pieces from this factory have remained highly collectible. |
